A Brew Review…
Ever have one of those “well, um, actually pretty nice little Saturdays, going to go to Home Depot and buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond (Costco in my case), don’t know if you’ll have enough time”? Well, I did! Trying to get over to Costco and I hear rumors of a new Brewery in the area…

📍 Grizzly Paw Brewing – Tank310 – Canmore, Alberta- This spot is a full-on mountain dream. Perched above the main brewery, Tank310 delivers the kind of views that honestly might ruin you for drinking beer anywhere else. Towering peaks, crisp air, and a balcony that makes every sip feel like a postcard moment.
🍺 The Beer? We started with a flight to sample a bit of everything—crisp lagers, hoppy IPAs, sweet sours—every pour was well-crafted and true to style. A fantastic way to get a feel for what Grizzly Paw does best.
🍸 The Cocktail? Surprise hit of the day: a killer cocktail. Bright, balanced, and crafted with care—definitely not your average brewery bar drink, which my girlfriend appreciated after gallons of beer.
🥙 The Food? We split the hummus plate and wow—possibly one of the best we`ve ever had. Super flavorful, fresh, and plated beautifully. It’s the kind of dish that’s light enough for a mid-adventure stop but satisfying enough to power you up for more exploring or tide you over until dinner.
✨ The Vibe? Tank310 has an elevated (litterally)-yet-casual feel—think industrial cabinl-meets-alpine-chic. The upstairs space is spacious and welcoming, and that balcony? Hands-down the best view I’ve ever had with a beer. It’s hard to leave once you settle in, but there was more beer to try elsewhere.
🧼 Restrooms? Clean, cool and well-kept. Everything you’d hope for after a few pints or a cocktail or two.

📍 Sheepdog Brewing – Canmore, Alberta- We knew Sheepdog was going to be a must visit for us, especially after getting a little taste in the Banff taproom. Nestled in the stunning mountain town of Canmore, Sheepdog Brewing is exactly the kind of place you want to land after a day in the Rockies. Surrounded by breathtaking views in every direction, this spot checks all the boxes: local craft beer, a chill yet lively vibe, and scenery that just doesn’t quit.
🍺 The Beer? As I found out in Banff, Sheepdog delivers. Their IPAs and crisp lagers hit just right after a day outside, and I couldn’t pass up on a fresh Morning Glory to go with my flight. From first pour to last sip, it’s clear these folks care about the craft.
✨ The Vibe? The upstairs space is a gem—complete with its own bar, great seating, and a fun, laid-back atmosphere. Whether you`re catching up with friends, getting lost in the views, or just soaking up the mountain energy, it’s an ideal place to post up with a pint.
🍽️ The Food? We didn’t eat this time—we were heading back toward Kananaskis for a dinner reservation—but the menu looked great and I was full to the eyeballs in delicious beer.
🧢 Merch? Couldn`t resist grabbing a new Sheepdog hat to add to the collection, but they made picking just one difficult. Their gear is plentiful, fun and there’s something for everyone.
🧼 Restrooms? Clean enough, easy to find, and a needed stop after a flight of beers.

📍 Sheepdog Brewing Taproom – Banff, Alberta- Banff was a truly amazing place to visit. My girlfriend was able to drag me outside into the breathtaking trails, hikes, bike rides, gratuitous beer pics with brewtiful views and in return I was able to bring her to two breweries and got lucky enough a new taproom opened just before our last day in town.
Enter: Sheepdog Brewing.
We’d heard their Banff taproom was aiming for an early May opening—and as luck would have it, we were in town from May 1–4 and caught it just as it opened! Tucked right in the heart of Banff, this new space is welcoming, laid-back, and full of that signature Sheepdog character.
🍺 The Beer? Sheepdog’s lineup is dialed in. Their small-batch IPAs and clean, refreshing lagers were exactly what we needed after a day outdoors. Bonus points for Morning Glory, which reminded me so much of a long gone light coffee beer out here in AZ that used to be a favorite.
🍽️ The Food? We didn’t eat this time (we were en route to Lake Louise), but the pizza menu sounded amazing—crispy dough, creative toppings, and perfect for post-adventure cravings. It’s definitely on the list for next time.
🧼 Restrooms? Modern, spotless, smal and fun dog print wallpaper made me laugh. Just what you want mid-pint.
🧢 Merch? Held off on grabbing anything here, but couldn’t resist picking up a Sheepdog hat later when we stopped by their Canmore location. Their merch is fun and plentiful!
✨ Vibe Check: Sheepdog nails the Banff vibe—chill, welcoming, and just the right amount of rugged-meets-refined. There`s enough space for families, groups of trail-weary adventurers, or bring your furry friend.

Bottom line: We stumbled into Sheepdog’s Banff taproom just as it opened, and so glad we got a little warm up before heading off to their Canmore location. Plus, got to take a few beers with for their photo shoots and consumption later.

📍 Three Bears Brewery – Banff, Alberta- Banff is pure magic. Towering peaks, glacier-fed lakes, crisp mountain air, no matter the season, it’s a place that stuns your senses. After a full day of hiking, skiing, paddling, or just soaking it all in, there`s only one proper way to cap it off: craft beer and good food.
Enter: Three Bears Brewery.
Right in the heart of Banff, this spot nails the post-adventure vibe. Amazing beer, cozy mountain-modern interiors, and food that goes way beyond “brewpub” expectations.
🍺 The Beer? The lineup is legit. We loved their seasonal IPAs and crisp lagers—perfectly brewed for mountain recovery while sitting on the gorgeous upstairs patio and extra points for the rooftop greenhouse where they grow some of their own ingredients!
🍽️ The Food? One word: pizza. More specifically, their reverse ice water fermented pepperoni and chili crisp pizza. Yep, it’s a mouthful—and it’s unforgettable. Crispy, spicy, complex, and somehow still craveable after a day on the trails. Easily one of the best brewery, if not just pizzas, we`ve had anywhere.
🧼 Restrooms? Clean, modern, and a welcome sight after a few pints.
🧢 Merch? Solid selection—good tees, hoodies, and gear that I couldn’t keep my eyes off, so a hat some socks made it back to the collection.
✨ Vibe Check: It’s got that perfect Banff blend: laid-back yet elevated. Family-friendly dining area, plus a separate bar space that’s ideal for a grown-up night out. Whether you’re covered in trail dust or dressed up for date night, you’ll feel totally at home here.

📍 Banff Ave Brewing – Banff, AB- Visiting Banff has been near the top of my bucket list since my first sip of beer. This year, we were able to fit in a short, but eventful and beer filled weekend. We booked a room at the beautiful Kananskis Mountain Lodge as home base and took the drive up to Banff some sightseeing and drinking. First stop had to be Banff Ave right on the main street for a flight of beer and a six pack for pictures later.
🍺 The beer? They have a great selection and I’d say 4 of 6 were delicious, but I love their White Wit, so that was my beer of chose for carrying around in case of emergency as we walked the town and took in the gorgeous views.
🍽️ Food? Absolutely. It’s elevated pub fare that punches above its weight. However, we had just filled up on a late breakfast and decided to stick with just the drinks this visit.
🧼 Restrooms? Clean, modern, woodsy-chic.
🧢 Merch? Plenty of cool items and a hat did come home to my collection. Since we were just starting our journey, I bought a glass for pics yet to be taken. Great options for any visitor though!
✨ Vibe check: Après-hike approved. Chill, friendly, and the kind of place you could settle into for hours especially their patio overlooking town and the mountains.

Bissell Brothers Brewing in Portland, ME – This one’s been on our list forever, and we finally made the pilgrimage. It’s the kind of place that you don’t realize you’re emotionally attached to until you’re trying to buy merch you definitely don’t need.
Bissell Brothers isn’t tucked away exactly, but it does sit in an old train depot-style building that gives off major industrial-cool vibes. Inside is a mix of brewery chic and beer nerd haven. There’s ample room inside to settle in with a few beers and the outdoor space is solid when the Maine weather behaves. It’s a Portland staple for good reason, and you can feel it buzzing with energy even on a weekday.
As for the beers? It’s not just hype. The flagship Substance Ale is a fridge-dweller now that I checked my bag to bring a dozen home and we couldn’t stop talking about Swish and a few of their rotating sours and lagers. These folks know how to play with flavor without losing balance. A flight wasn’t available, not sure if that was just where we sat or in general, but I made up for it with a few pints.
Food? Yes! They’ve got a small but mighty kitchen inside, but it was a day we were just getting started on, so just the beer this time.
Restrooms? Way more modern than expected. Clean, cool, and just a little moody in that "Portland craft aesthetic" kind of way.
Merch? Oh yes. Dangerous levels of cool stuff—hats, shirts, glassware. You will walk out with something. You’ve been warned.
Bottom line: Go to Bissell. Drink the beer. Eat the food. Buy the hoodie. Regret nothing.

The Shop Beer Co in Tempe, AZ- Surprisingly, this is a pretty frequent stop for us, but we always forget to take pics, so here are a few from Christmas time up to our visit a couple weeks ago. Getting distracted by beer just happens and I guess we just take for granted that we will be back there soon.
The Shop Beer Co isn’t really easy to find, but it is worth the effort. It’s a small little spot with a lot of brewing space and growing quickly thanks to some amazing beers. There really isn’t much inside, feels like a fun old dive bar, but it’s got a great patio. There is plenty of airport noise, but it’s just a fun spot with good beer and close to ASU. We’re really excited to see how it all looks when they finish their expansions that look like they will be done any time now. I personally always have a few Church Music stays in my beer fridge, but anytime we stop by, I always try whatever Neonic(s) are on draught and anything else new because I love their creativity.
Food? Food trucks only, but they have some good regulars.
Restrooms? Funky, old, cool and clean.
Merch? I know I have a few things already, so no need to keep adding to the collection, but they have something for everyone.
All we can really say is go try their beers, you will not be disappointed!

Barrio Brewing Co in Tucson, AZ- I have to start by saying there are a lot of other places in AZ I would like to visit besides Tucson, but it has it`s bright spots…beer. So, anytime I do get a chance to head south, I like to plan out which breweries to visit because there are A LOT now.
Barrio Brewing was first on my list last trip. Their location just always looked so cool from the outside and somehow, I had not been. I honestly, don’t think I came close to exploring the full place, so another visit is probably needed, but it didn’t disappoint. It’s hard to describe, but it feels like an industrial western setting and very eclectic, yet comfortable. We got there and it was already packed at about 1 PM, so we grabbed a table, a flight and some snacks to start our brewery hopping. Three out of my four pours were very good and their Blonde ale usually finds it way in my fridge a few times a year.
Food? It’s a robust menu, but I need bread to start my drinking journey, so pretzels and beer cheese hit the spot. We also had wings and chips at the table and nobody was complaining.
Restrooms? They fit the surroundings, so eclectic, cool, pretty clean and operational.
Merch? So many hats to choose from it was overload for me, but one made it home with me. They had ton’s of other fun shirts and souvenirs, so there is something for anyone.
Barrio is worth a visit just to explore, but the beer and food will make you happy you stopped by.

Tombstone Brewing in Pheonix, AZ- Tombstone North opened up this location about a month or two before I moved to the other side of the valley. My first visit was summer and about 120 out, so I’m glad I made it back over now that it is March and only 95 out.
It was so hot the first time we stopped by they had their frozen drinks going and they really hit this spot. This time, I got to enjoy a couple flights and I’d say 5 of 8 were excellent, with my favorite being their It’s Always Sunny hazy, which I happily brought a couple 4 packs home with me. The layout works well aside from the lack of outdoor space, with a good size bar, plenty of table seating, enough TV’s (but not overloaded) and some darts and games scattered about the place. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some good beer, had a bite to eat and chatted with the staff, who were great.
Food? Each time I’ve been there, I wanted to order something different, but I’ve never strayed away from their pretzel and cheese. It’s delicious and was plenty for me and my girlfriend to split, but there are tons of other good looking items on the menu.
Restrooms? They have some cool fixtures and I don’t know why, but I love a keg urinal. It feels like I’m recycling, lol. They are nice, clean and maybe enviornmental?
Merch? The first time I was there I didn’t realize they had so much, but I still don’t have a hat in my collection. I’ll be back soon to pick one up, but they have nice selection.
Tombstone North’s beer and pretzels alone is definitely worth the visit.

Lake Pleasant Brewing in Phoenix, AZ- I hate to admit it, but I’ve only been here a four or five times and I can’t figure out why.
Lake Pleasant has some great beers, a friendly atmosphere and some fun things to while enjoying them both. The first time I visited I was so concerned about the beer, i didn’t even realize they had a little mini arcade happening in the back. So, last visit we played some games, drank a couple flights and watched a little TV and had a great time before heading off to our next stop. Everyone is very helpful and friendly and each visit I have always grabbed a few 4 packs to take home to enjoy later.
Food? Food trucks only and I have yet to try one. However, every time I’ve been, customers have brought their own food, so that’s an option.
Restrooms? Clean, working and fully stocked, so no issues.
Merch? I got a hat for my collection on the first visit and they have plenty of other great looking stuff to choose from too.
Lake Pleasant feels like a well kept secret to me. I tend to day drink most weekends, so it has always been easy to get a seat, talk to the staff and enjoy the atmosphere. If you haven’t been you should go soon!

Austin St Brewery – Portland, ME- Every year for the last five years, I`ve made the pilgrimage to Maine post-Christmas to visit my girlfriend’s family, which also conveniently coincides with my annual brewery-hopping mission to drink as much beer as time (and weather) will allow. Last year was no different. Neither rain, sleet, nor snow wasn going to stop us from strolling around Portland like craft beer enthusiasts on a mission. And Austin St Brewery quickly became one of my favorites.
Austin St serves up some really good beer, and had I not been on a very tight schedule of “hit as many breweries as possible before dinner,” I definitely would’ve stuck around for more pints (and maybe a few bites). The place has a cozy vibe that makes you want to sink into a chair, grab a cold one, and cuddle up next to their warm electric fireplace.
The patio looks amazing too, and I can only imagine how awesome it would be on a nice summer day, with the doors open and the sun shining. But since it was late December in Maine, we were more focused on not turning into human popsicles than enjoying the outdoors.
Food? Well, let’s just say I was one beer away from dinner plans and too many beers deep to be making any decisions about food. So, we stuck to what we knew best: more beer.
Merch? As someone from Arizona (where beanies are as rare as snow in July), I wasn`t surprised to see that out east, it’s all about the beanies. And, of course, I bought one as a gift for my drinking buddy. However, I must report that Austin St was a tragic no-hat zone on my visit.
Bathrooms? Clean, functional, and honestly, that’s all you can ask for. They’re basic, but definitely up to the task of making sure your experience doesn’t involve any unwanted surprises.
In short, Austin St Brewery is tucked right in the heart of Portland, ME, and it’s one of my favorite spots in one of my favorite cities. Seriously, when you can walk to dozens of amazing breweries (including one literally in the same parking lot) how can you complain?
