Argenta Brewing in Portland, ME – You know those places where you walk in, and you instantly feel like you want to settle in for the day? Yeah, this is one of those. Nestled in a quiet spot of Portland, Argenta is a hidden "lager saloon” that you will be happy you found!

We were about halfway through our brewery crawl and this was a new one I was excited to visit. Argenta’s got a rotating mix of their own brews as well as some cocktails, for those who want a change. I had the Munich Dunkel and it was excellent.

The vibe is not necessarily a saloon, unless it’s the upscale version, like glamping is to camping. It’s open, yet cozy and has a nice outdoor patio and a few attractions to keep you busy, if the beer isn’t enough to keep you entertained.

As for food? They’ve got some good looking sandwiches and sharables, but I just stuck to some popcorn to keep my belly beer ready. I wish I had given the Cubano a try, but like I said, we were only halfway through our crawl and I needed the space. Bathrooms? Clean, nice, functional, so no complaints there! Merch? Sadly not much to offer, so no hat came home with me, but I know they are working on it.

If you’re in Portland, make Argenta Brewing a top stop. The only regret you’ll have is not coming here sooner.

Hi-Fidelity Brewing in Portland, ME- The kind of place that makes you wonder why you haven’t been here every day since you arrived. Located in the East Bayside neighborhood, it’s one of those “blink and you’ll miss it” spots. But once you find it, you realize you’re n the middle of a half dozen other breweries. What a way to spend a day!

We wandered in after hearing rave reviews about their beer list, and folks weren’t lying. Hi-Fidelity has a rotating selection of their own brews, from lagers smoother than your best friend’s pickup lines to IPAs that’ll punch you in the face (in a good way). There’s about a dozen of their own beers on tap most under 5%.

The atmosphere is pure Portland: laid-back but with enough energy to keep things interesting. The taproom’s spacious, but cozy enough to have regular jam sessions for anyone who might want to join in he fun. The staff? Dante was helpful and friendly and his nano brewery is clearly his passion. Most of the beers are low ABV, but thoughtfully crafted and delicious.

As for food, it’s a bit of a mystery to me because I only had interest in beer, the cute dog next to us and the group of musicians working on some chords. However, it sounded like a food trucks may make regular appearances.

Picking up some merch might be a problem though. There was not much of an option yet, but I know they’re coming. The restroom? Clean enough and functional, so minimum requirements are met!

Hundred Mile Brewing in Tempe, AZ- A hidden gem in Arizona’s craft beer scene. It’s conveniently located near ASU and Mill Ave, so you can keep the good times rolling without wandering too far. It’s a bit of a confusing entrance off the road, but once you get here, you’ll want to stay.

We came here just to try out a new place before a couple others on the opposite side of town, but quickly changed our minds. They’ve got a great selection of craft beers, around a dozen of their own and a handful of guest taps as well. I started with a flight and graduated to many more pints. The staff was super friendly and helpful, Oh, and they have two different bars, one of which also serves the outside (dog friendly) patio.

Food? It was all excellent! Since we decided to park ourselves firmly in our seats for the day, we split a charcuterie board and the pretzels and they did not disappoint. The rest of the menu did make it tough to choose.

Highly recommend stopping by Hundred Mile Brewing if you’re in Tempe. Don’t forget to snag some merch (I got a hat for the rack). The bathrooms? New, super clean and plenty of room to do your business.

In short, Hundred Mile Brewing is a great stop for solid beer, good food and fun times.

OHSO Brewery + Distillery in North Scottsdale, AZ. OHSO Breweries are popping up all over Arizona, and for good reason! The North Scottsdale location used to be one of our go-to spots for brunch and some day drinking. Then, they closed it down for a glow-up—remodeling into an even better brewery and distillery.

The newly revamped location has something for everyone. It`s now a "test kitchen," serving up some of their best dishes (plus new creations), alongside a solid lineup of their signature beers and cocktails. Need to keep the kiddos entertained? There`s an arcade. Want to enjoy the sunshine with your furry friend? The massive pet-friendly patio has got you covered. Plus, there` walls of TVs for all the sports fans (or people who just want to pretend they`re into sports while actually there to drink). And, of course, the staff is very welcoming.

Food? OHSO has always nailed food and drink, but with the test kitchen in full swing, I decided to go off-script and try something new. Enter: shrimp and grits, paired with my flight as well as a Boysenberry Sour. The shrimp and grits were excellent. The beers were good, and when ASU won the BIG 12 Championship, I found myself trying many more beers than I initially planned. It was a good day.

Merch? OHSO`s got a nifty little corner for picking up swag, and yes, had I not been coming here for years, I would have added a new one. But hey, if you`re into collecting cool stuff, there are plenty of fresh options to check out as well as their Vodka or Gin bottles to enjoy at home.

Bathrooms? Clean, spacious, and cool. Nothing to fear here—unless you fear extremely clean restrooms.

In short:
OHSO is a win no matter which location you visit, but if you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and check out the freshly remodeled Scottsdale spot. It’s got food, drink, and fun—all wrapped in one giant, welcoming package.

Rising Tide Brewing in Portland, ME- Each of the last five years, I’ve made my post-Christmas pilgrimage to Maine, hopping between breweries and hoping for snow. Last year, Rising Tide was one of my stops, and it didn’t disappoint. The brewery has a relaxed, no-frills charm that made me feel right at home. It’s the kind of place where you could easily spend the whole day, sipping beer and pretending you don’t have responsibilities. Unfortunately, my schedule was packed with brewery visits, so my stop was brief, but I’ll be back.

The atmosphere at Rising Tide is a good balance of “cool but not too cool,” the kind of vibe you can only find in a legit local brewery. While the weather outside was classic Maine—cold, rainy, and snowy—I’m sure I’d enjoy the spacious patio in summer, soaking up the sun and a few beers.

As for food, I didn’t get a chance to try anything. I was too focused on hitting one more brewery, which would be my last stop before dinner. However, if you’re hungry, they have a menu that’ll satisfy you—I just couldn’t tell you what’s on it since I was more interested in my last pint of the day than food.

Merchandise? There wasn’t much, but I snagged a hat for my collection. I’d love to see more hats and beanies, but I’m sure they’ll restock by my next visit.

The bathroom? Functional, clean enough, and no-frills. At this point in my brewery journey, all I care about is knowing I won’t have to fight for a stall. This bathroom did the job without any fuss.

In short, Rising Tide Brewing Co is a gem in Portland. With great beers, a laid-back vibe and a solid menu, it embodies why Portland is such a beloved beer destination. You’ll find yourself wishing you had more time to hang out—and you’ll definitely be back for more. After all, Portland’s beer scene is so rich, it’s impossible to hit all the good spots in one trip.

Artifact Brewing in Doylestown, PA. If you find yourself in Doylestown, PA, on the Bucks County Ale Trail, and you’re looking for a place to break up your epic beer crawl, look no further. It’s like the cool, down-to-earth version of one of our favorite hometown breweries—casual, clean, and totally unpretentious. But don’t be fooled by its small size; the space is deceptively spacious, with a large bar, cozy seating, and even a patio for those cool evenings.

We stumbled in just as the place was about to open. We tried a flight, and while we didn’t officially come for food, they’ve got some snacks to tide you over. But honestly, you’re here for the beer—and the vibe. If you’re into good tunes and conversations with strangers you didn’t plan on talking to (you’ll get pulled in, trust me), you’ll love it. And if you’ve got a thing for hats (like me), prepare to add some stylish new headgear to your collection, as the selection is one of the best we’ve come across.

Speaking of style, the beer was good, but the standout was The People Now, an above-average pale ale that’s perfect for when you’ve had one too many before this stop but still want something refreshing. Big props to the bartender who was not just friendly and knowledgeable, but gave us a great tour of where the magic happens.

Now, the restroom: Look, it’s not a luxury spa. It’s clean, functional, and it gets the job done. Still, no complaints—it wasn’t a disaster.

If you find yourself in Doylestown (which we will again next year), stop by for a flight or two and some good tunes.

Well Crafted Beer Co in Lansdale, PA. Ah, fate! After three days of brewery-hopping through the Bucks County Ale Trail, we had pretty much reached our limit of “just one more pint” and were ready to board a plane back to AŻ. But, as always, I couldn’t resist the siren call of Google Maps—just one more brewery, right? Enter Well Crafted Beer Co., which kept popping up on my screen like another political ad. And boy, am I glad we listened to it.

As we pulled up, it looked like the place was closed. We almost drove away in defeat, but then we noticed a small stairway leading down to what could only be described as a secret beer lair. Yes, folks, Well Crafted is a basement brewery. Talk about a hidden gem! We descended into the spacious, well-laid-out brewpub below street level, where it felt like we’d stumbled into a cool underground club for beer lovers.

Once inside, we snagged a table and ordered a flight to sample while we debated what to eat. The menu was packed with delicious choices, but we opted for a giant pretzel because, well, it’s the most responsible thing to eat when consuming large quantities of beer. It was perfect—salty, doughy, and just the right amount of food to soak up the alcohol. The staff was super friendly, the food was tasty, and if we weren’t in a rush to get to the airport, we would’ve gladly tried more.

They also had some killer merch, so we picked up a couple of hats to add to the collection. And, let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to wear a hat that says “Well Crafted Beer” on it? We had time for one last pint before we had to dash, and naturally, we had to make a bathroom stop (we’re thorough like that). The restroom? Not quite a five-star spa experience, but it was clean, spacious, and met all our basic needs—no complaints there.

If you’re in the area, don’t sleep on Well Crafted Beer Co. It’s definitely worth a visit.

OUR BREWERY ADVENTURES:

Bru Daddy’s Brewing in Allentown, PA. After jumping around breweries on the Bucks County Ale Trail, we decided to hit up a few places in Allentown. I’m glad we did, as this place was so cool. Getting out of our Uber, this place was very unassuming, but just a few steps inside and the place was enormous. Soaring ceilings, multiple levels, a mezzanine and what seems like a mile long outdoor space, which didn’t seem possible at first glance.

The bar was spacious with plenty of seating and their beer variety was plentiful. Since we still wanted to hit a few more spots, I stuck with my colorful flight. The beers were pretty good, but I couldn’t pick a favorite. We had also just stuffed our faces with cheesesteak egg rolls, but would’ve loved a pizza, as they looked delicious.

As like a lot of places, they didn’t have hats at the time so didn’t get to add one to my collection. Some of their other items looked cool and we were able to grab a 4 pack to go, just in case we got thirsty on the way to the next stop.

If there is one bad thing about trying to visit 7-10 breweries in a day, it’s that we don’t get to see what the early ones are like when they get busy. Bru Daddy seems like it would be a really cool place to chill when it has a little crowd buzz. Plenty of things to do, places to sit, food to eat and good beer to drink. Hope we can experience that next time we visit. Oh, the bathrooms were clean enough, nothing to brag about, nothing to be scared of either.

Austin St Brewery – Portland, ME- Every year for the last five years, I`ve made the pilgrimage to Maine post-Christmas to visit my girlfriend’s family, which also conveniently coincides with my annual brewery-hopping mission to drink as much beer as time (and weather) will allow. Last year was no different. Neither rain, sleet, nor snow wasn going to stop us from strolling around Portland like craft beer enthusiasts on a mission. And Austin St Brewery quickly became one of my favorites.

Austin St serves up some really good beer, and had I not been on a very tight schedule of “hit as many breweries as possible before dinner,” I definitely would’ve stuck around for more pints (and maybe a few bites). The place has a cozy vibe that makes you want to sink into a chair, grab a cold one, and cuddle up next to their warm electric fireplace.

The patio looks amazing too, and I can only imagine how awesome it would be on a nice summer day, with the doors open and the sun shining. But since it was late December in Maine, we were more focused on not turning into human popsicles than enjoying the outdoors.

Food? Well, let’s just say I was one beer away from dinner plans and too many beers deep to be making any decisions about food. So, we stuck to what we knew best: more beer.

Merch? As someone from Arizona (where beanies are as rare as snow in July), I wasn`t surprised to see that out east, it’s all about the beanies. And, of course, I bought one as a gift for my drinking buddy. However, I must report that Austin St was a tragic no-hat zone on my visit.

Bathrooms? Clean, functional, and honestly, that’s all you can ask for. They’re basic, but definitely up to the task of making sure your experience doesn’t involve any unwanted surprises.

In short, Austin St Brewery is tucked right in the heart of Portland, ME, and it’s one of my favorite spots in one of my favorite cities. Seriously, when you can walk to dozens of amazing breweries (including one literally in the same parking lot) how can you complain?
