📍 Orange Bike Brewing – Portland, Maine – We didn’t know much about Orange Bike before rolling in, but spoiler alert: we left impressed. Tucked just off the beaten Portland beer path, this spot is a full-flavored, full-vibe kind of place—and it might just be our new happy place every visit.

🍺 The Beer? Wildly good. Not to mention it is all gluten-free. I love my gluten, but these beers are great. Their lagers and IPAs were clean, balanced, and honestly kind of show-offy (in the best way). Bonus points for the rotating small batches that make commitment issues totally forgivable.

✨ The Vibe? Imagine a bike shop, a greenhouse, and a dream taproom had a baby. That’s Orange Bike. It’s bright, quirky, and cozy—like your cool friend’s garage if your friend was a fermentation wizard with killer taste in lighting.

🍽️ The Food? No kitchen, but you’ll be too busy sipping to notice. And with Portland’s food scene, you’re never far from your next snack. Pro tip: pair your pint with a post-beer donut from down the block and live your best life and get that gluten fix.

🧢 Merch? Yes. Grabbed a bucket hat I absolutely didn’t need and it fits in my collection like a sore thumb, but it’s great. Their branding is clean and fun—just like their beer.

🧼 Restrooms? Clean, new, easy, no weird smells, and fully equipped to handle the aftermath of a proper flight.

📍 Proper Brewing – Moab, Utah- Moab is one of our all-time favorite destinations. Whether you`re exploring Arches or Canyonlands National Parks, wandering the state parks, or just hiking through the desert, the landscape is nothing short of otherworldly. You can pick any direction and be rewarded with jaw-dropping views. And after a full day of adventure in the Southwest? You need good beer.

🍺 The beer? A fantastic selection of styles—we especially loved Blizzard Wizard, Yacht Rock, and Leisurebrau. Perfect winter brews after a day in the fresh air.

🍽️ The food? From what we remember (thanks, beers), it hit the spot! The kids were happy with burgers and an Oreo shake—yes, we shamelessly stole a few sips.

🧼 Restrooms? Clean and sufficient.

🧢 Merch? Great merch! We snagged a Leisurebrau tee featuring a desert arch and hammock—still one of our favorites.

✨ Vibe Check: So here’s the deal: we visited twice. The dining room was super kid-friendly and casual (great for dusty, sweaty adventurers). But we didn’t realize the bar area was separate—classic out-of-towners! On date night, we found the bar had a more classic brewery vibe—adult, relaxed, and perfect for a beer-forward evening. Both spaces are laid-back and welcoming.

📍 Eighty-Eight Brewing – Calgary, Alberta – This one had been on our radar for a while, and after spending a couple days closer to Canmore and Banff, I had to stop in on the way back to the airport. Tucked into a retro-chic corner of Calgary’s Barley Belt, Eighty-Eight Brewing is bursting with personality—equal parts funky, nostalgic, and unapologetically fun. From the moment you walk in, it feels like a beer-fueled time machine to a cooler version of 1988.

🍺 The Beer? These folks don’t play it safe at all—and I love that. From juicy IPAs to fruit-forward sours and smooth lagers, there’s always something surprisingly delicious on tap. We built a flight and could’ve easily done another, but had an international flight to catch. It was well worth the stress though.

✨ The Vibe? Total throwback, in the best way. Neon lights, arcade vibes, old-school snacks—it’s like your childhood mall grew up and started brewing beer. The space is inviting, playful, and packed with character, but it never feels gimmicky. Just pure, creative energy.

🍽️ The Food? We didn’t eat during our visit due to a very small amount of time, but Holy Cow is slinging Detroit-style pizza out of the same space—and it smelled incredible. It’s already on the list for next time.

🧢 Merch? Fire. The branding here is top-tier and their merch game matches it. Vintage-style tees, bold designs, and cans that could double as art. I grabbed myself and killer hat and packed it away to join my collection at home.

🧼 Restrooms? Clean, quirky, and full of little design surprises—because of course they are. Eighty-Eight really doesn’t miss a beat.

📍 Canmore Brewing – Canmore, Alberta – After hearing plenty of good food and beer, we finally made our way to Canmore Brewing—and it didn’t disappoint. Located right in the heart of one of the most scenic towns in the Rockies, this brewery feels like a natural extension of its surroundings: welcoming, adventurous, and full of flavor.

🍺 The Beer? Canmore Brewing brings the goods. We dove into a flight and were impressed across the board—standouts included their smooth yet hoppy Ten Peaks Pale Ale and the crisp, which was probably my favoritee. Everything tasted fresh, clean, and brewed with clear intention. If you`re into variety with solid execution, this is your spot.

✨ The Vibe? Laid-back and friendly. The tasting room has a relaxed, open feel with big windows that let the mountains do their thing. It’s the kind of place where you can strike up a convo with the locals or just kick back and enjoy the scenery with your beer in hand.

🍽️ The Food? To be honest, we saw some snacks, but had just eaten and had an hour drive back to the hotel before dinner, so just the beers this time.

🧢 Merch? Solid merch game! Picked up a fresh Canmore Brewing hatt that is back safely in my collection. They’ve got a nice mix of apparel and beer-to-go if you want to keep the vibe going after your visit.

📍 Grizzly Paw Brewing – Tank310 – Canmore, Alberta- This spot is a full-on mountain dream. Perched above the main brewery, Tank310 delivers the kind of views that honestly might ruin you for drinking beer anywhere else. Towering peaks, crisp air, and a balcony that makes every sip feel like a postcard moment.

🍺 The Beer? We started with a flight to sample a bit of everything—crisp lagers, hoppy IPAs, sweet sours—every pour was well-crafted and true to style. A fantastic way to get a feel for what Grizzly Paw does best.

🍸 The Cocktail? Surprise hit of the day: a killer cocktail. Bright, balanced, and crafted with care—definitely not your average brewery bar drink, which my girlfriend appreciated after gallons of beer.

🥙 The Food? We split the hummus plate and wow—possibly one of the best we`ve ever had. Super flavorful, fresh, and plated beautifully. It’s the kind of dish that’s light enough for a mid-adventure stop but satisfying enough to power you up for more exploring or tide you over until dinner.

✨ The Vibe? Tank310 has an elevated (litterally)-yet-casual feel—think industrial cabinl-meets-alpine-chic. The upstairs space is spacious and welcoming, and that balcony? Hands-down the best view I’ve ever had with a beer. It’s hard to leave once you settle in, but there was more beer to try elsewhere.

Nestled in the stunning mountain town of Canmore, Sheepdog Brewing is exactly the kind of place you want to land after a day in the Rockies. Surrounded by breathtaking views in every direction, this spot checks all the boxes: local craft beer, a chill yet lively vibe, and scenery that just doesn’t quit.

🍺 The Beer? As I found out in Banff, Sheepdog delivers. Their IPAs and crisp lagers hit just right after a day outside, and I couldn’t pass up on a fresh Morning Glory to go with my flight. From first pour to last sip, it’s clear these folks care about the craft.

✨ The Vibe? The upstairs space is a gem—complete with its own bar, great seating, and a fun, laid-back atmosphere. Whether you`re catching up with friends, getting lost in the views, or just soaking up the mountain energy, it’s an ideal place to post up with a pint.

🍽️ The Food? We didn’t eat this time—we were heading back toward Kananaskis for a dinner reservation—but the menu looked great and I was full to the eyeballs in delicious beer.

🧢 Merch? Couldn`t resist grabbing a new Sheepdog hat to add to the collection, but they made picking just one difficult. Their gear is plentiful, fun and there’s something for everyone.

📍 Sheepdog Brewing Taproom – Banff, Alberta- Banff was a truly amazing place to visit. My girlfriend was able to drag me outside into the breathtaking trails, hikes, bike rides, gratuitous beer pics with brewtiful views and in return I was able to bring her to two breweries and got lucky enough a new taproom opened just before our last day in town.

Enter: Sheepdog Brewing.
We’d heard their Banff taproom was aiming for an early May opening—and as luck would have it, we were in town from May 1–4 and caught it just as it opened! Tucked right in the heart of Banff, this new space is welcoming, laid-back, and full of that signature Sheepdog character.

🍺 The Beer? Sheepdog’s lineup is dialed in. Their small-batch IPAs and clean, refreshing lagers were exactly what we needed after a day outdoors. Bonus points for Morning Glory, which reminded me so much of a long gone light coffee beer out here in AZ that used to be a favorite.

🍽️ The Food? We didn’t eat this time (we were en route to Lake Louise), but the pizza menu sounded amazing—crispy dough, creative toppings, and perfect for post-adventure cravings. It’s definitely on the list for next time.

🧼 Restrooms? Modern, spotless, smal and fun dog print wallpaper made me laugh. Just what you want mid-pint.

🧢 Merch? Held off on grabbing anything here, but couldn’t resist picking up a Sheepdog hat later when we stopped by their Canmore location. Their merch is fun and plentiful!

After a full day of hiking, skiing, paddling, or just soaking it all in, there`s only one proper way to cap it off: craft beer and good food.

Enter: Three Bears Brewery.
Right in the heart of Banff, this spot nails the post-adventure vibe. Amazing beer, cozy mountain-modern interiors, and food that goes way beyond “brewpub” expectations.

🍺 The Beer? The lineup is legit. We loved their seasonal IPAs and crisp lagers—perfectly brewed for mountain recovery while sitting on the gorgeous upstairs patio and extra points for the rooftop greenhouse where they grow some of their own ingredients!

🍽️ The Food? One word: pizza. More specifically, their reverse ice water fermented pepperoni and chili crisp pizza. Yep, it’s a mouthful—and it’s unforgettable. Crispy, spicy, complex, and somehow still craveable after a day on the trails. Easily one of the best brewery, if not just pizzas, we`ve had anywhere.

🧼 Restrooms? Clean, modern, and a welcome sight after a few pints.

🧢 Merch? Solid selection—good tees, hoodies, and gear that I couldn’t keep my eyes off, so a hat some socks made it back to the collection.

Lake Pleasant Brewing in Phoenix, AZ- I hate to admit it, but I’ve only been here a four or five times and I can’t figure out why.

Lake Pleasant has some great beers, a friendly atmosphere and some fun things to while enjoying them both. The first time I visited I was so concerned about the beer, i didn’t even realize they had a little mini arcade happening in the back. So, last visit we played some games, drank a couple flights and watched a little TV and had a great time before heading off to our next stop. Everyone is very helpful and friendly and each visit I have always grabbed a few 4 packs to take home to enjoy later.

Food? Food trucks only and I have yet to try one. However, every time I’ve been, customers have brought their own food, so that’s an option.

Restrooms? Clean, working and fully stocked, so no issues.

Merch? I got a hat for my collection on the first visit and they have plenty of other great looking stuff to choose from too.

Lake Pleasant feels like a well kept secret to me. I tend to day drink most weekends, so it has always been easy to get a seat, talk to the staff and enjoy the atmosphere. If you haven’t been you should go soon!

Austin St Brewery – Portland, ME- Every year for the last five years, I`ve made the pilgrimage to Maine post-Christmas to visit my girlfriend’s family, which also conveniently coincides with my annual brewery-hopping mission to drink as much beer as time (and weather) will allow. Last year was no different. Neither rain, sleet, nor snow wasn going to stop us from strolling around Portland like craft beer enthusiasts on a mission. And Austin St Brewery quickly became one of my favorites.

Austin St serves up some really good beer, and had I not been on a very tight schedule of “hit as many breweries as possible before dinner,” I definitely would’ve stuck around for more pints (and maybe a few bites). The place has a cozy vibe that makes you want to sink into a chair, grab a cold one, and cuddle up next to their warm electric fireplace.

The patio looks amazing too, and I can only imagine how awesome it would be on a nice summer day, with the doors open and the sun shining. But since it was late December in Maine, we were more focused on not turning into human popsicles than enjoying the outdoors.

Food? Well, let’s just say I was one beer away from dinner plans and too many beers deep to be making any decisions about food. So, we stuck to what we knew best: more beer.

Merch? As someone from Arizona (where beanies are as rare as snow in July), I wasn`t surprised to see that out east, it’s all about the beanies. And, of course, I bought one as a gift for my drinking buddy. However, I must report that Austin St was a tragic no-hat zone on my visit.

Bathrooms? Clean, functional, and honestly, that’s all you can ask for. They’re basic, but definitely up to the task of making sure your experience doesn’t involve any unwanted surprises.

In short, Austin St Brewery is tucked right in the heart of Portland, ME, and it’s one of my favorite spots in one of my favorite cities. Seriously, when you can walk to dozens of amazing breweries (including one literally in the same parking lot) how can you complain?
